Zoo Ball, one of summer’s most anticipated events, commemorates its 40th anniversary as a “mane” attraction on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight.
Hosted by the Women’s Board of Lincoln Park Zoo, Zoo Ball: The Mane Event will spotlight the majestic Lincoln Park Zoo animals that proudly display manes, and it will include a summer soiree of dinner and dancing.
As part of the Women’s Board pledge to fund new initiatives at the zoo, proceeds from the event will benefit the planned $9 million state-of-the-art Visitor Center. The new Visitor Center will offer more than 3.6 million annual visitors a dynamic introduction to wildlife. Joining the Women’s Board in celebrating the 40th anniversary of Zoo Ball this year is presenting sponsor PowerShares QQQ by Invesco and premier patrons Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and BMO Harris Bank.
Zoo Ball is a prestigious black-tie affair set against a backdrop of the zoo’s natural beauty. Drawing inspiration from the habitats of animals with magnificent manes, a luxurious safari-style setting will await guests as they arrive at the East Gate entrance. Patrons will hand their keys to the valet and accept a gin and tonic from a safari guide. As guests stroll in to the sounds of African drumming, they will be whisked away into another world. The picturesque setting of Lincoln Park Zoo will be enhanced by tall papyrus to evoke the feeling of grasslands. Woodland features such as natural rustic colors, wood, and copper accents will emulate the vast African landscape and complement the existing foliage. As an added touch, canopies will envelop a cozy VIP lounge area.
During cocktail hour, attendees will be invited to bid on alluring silent auction offerings, including dynamic wine and spirits packages as well as exciting experiences. A few highlights include tickets to the 69th Emmy Awards that offer access to the red carpet, seats at the ceremony, and admission to the after-party; four tickets to the Lady Gaga concert in Chicago, and a Chicago Cubs game with participation in the line card presentation.
As dusk falls, lanterns will glow as patrons make their way to dinner provided by Jewell Events Catering. Following the three-course meal, guests will hop to their feet to enjoy the music of Ken Arlen Evolution Orchestra as well as late-night snacks. When the event concludes, attendees will leave with an unforgettable feeling of fulfillment, knowing that they helped to support and maintain Chicago’s only free zoo and worldwide leader in conservation.
