HIGHLAND PARK– The Highland Park – Highwood Legal Aid Clinic (the Clinic) is excited to announce that Karla Livney has been named managing attorney at the Clinic. Livney succeeds Kathryn Vanden Berk, who will continue as a pro bono attorney and Board Chair.
Livney began her legal career practicing in the areas of commercial and employment litigation at Goldberg Kohn and McDermott, Will & Emery. As a result of her involvement with the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Foundation, Livney became involved with the Chicago Charter School Foundation and eventually left private practice to serve as the executive director of the organization.
Most recently, Livney served as a District 112 School Board Member. During her four-year term, Livney focused on finances, union contract negotiations, employment disputes, facilities, school standards, curriculum, diversity and community relations.
Livney has also been an active volunteer at the Pro Bono Network – an organization that partners with legal aid agencies in order to offer legal services to those in need.
“We are thrilled to have Karla join our team in addressing the legal concerns of those in need,” said Susan Shulman, Executive Director of the Clinic. “Karla’s experience, expertise and deep understanding of the communities we serve will enhance our ability to provide effective, high-quality legal services to our clients.”
