NORTBHROOK – Little leprechauns and their families are invited to get in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit at the North Suburban YMCA’s annual “Dive for Gold” pool party on March 11. This popular event welcomes the community to help tint the Y’s spacious indoor pool a festive green, while swimmers collect “leprechaun gold” tokens from the depths. Kids can then exchange their tokens for goody bags of prizes.
The swim party runs from 2:00 to 3:30pm at the Y, 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. Admission is free for NSYMCA members. Non-member admission is $10 per person with a maximum fee of $20 per family. Parents are asked to swim with children younger than six, and to stay in the pool area to supervise older children.
“We all look forward to the “Dive for Gold” party as a great springtime tradition at the Y,” notes NSYMCA Aquatics Director Don Enger. “This is our seventh year of turning the pool green, just like Chicago turns its river green for St. Patrick’s Day. More importantly, it’s a great opportunity for kids to have fun swimming and practice their skills as they collect the gold.”
The Y’s indoor pool is a hub of activity for all ages, with swim lessons, lap swimming, water-based fitness classes, and private rental pool parties. Swim instruction at the Y promotes safety, confidence, and a love of activity that supports a lifetime of healthy habits. To better serve the Y’s diverse community, the Y’s aquatics staff offers swim instruction in several different languages.
Spring Session swim classes begin April 3. For more information about aquatics programs at the North Suburban Y, or about the “Dive for Gold” event on March 11, call 847 272 7250 or visit NSYMCA.org.
