Here an account of the incident according to a Highland Park Police Department news release from Friday, Feb. 10:
“Aggravated Assault/Car Jacking
“On Friday, February 10 at 4:05 p.m, police were notified of a shooting that had just taken place in the 1800 block of Deerfield Road. The adult victim of the incident drove himself to the Highland Park Police Department after the suspect fired shots at the victim, who was seated in his car. Damage was observed on the victim’s vehicle that was consistent with being struck by ammunition discharged from a firearm. The victim was not injured during the incident and was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
“Officers immediately responded to the 1800 block of Deerfield Road to search for the suspect, where a witness to the incident was located. The witness provided officers with a description of the offender and the vehicle they left the scene in. A local lookout was broadcast to local officers, and the vehicle, which was occupied by two people, was quickly located and stopped by officers from the Deerfield Police Department. The suspected offender was taken into custody without incident and two firearms were recovered.
“Investigators determined that after discharging the firearm at the initial victim, the armed suspect then displayed a firearm at the driver of a delivery truck and ordered him to drive away.
“It was determined that the victim of the shooting was known by the suspected offender and that the incident was not a random act.
“The police will be reviewing the incident with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine appropriate charges. The identity of the suspect will be released when charges have been obtained.
