The League of Women Voters encourages everyone to watch the Emmy winning television series “Years of Living Dangerously” on Wed. December 14, at 9 p.m.. “The Coal Wars” is the title of this week’s show, hosted by actress America Ferrera. Highlighted will be the work of the Clean Power Lake County coalition of which the League is a member. League members and other local activists talk about why they are involved.
The coalition is pushing for a Waukegan coal-burning power plant to transition to renewable energy. The coal plant is the largest source of air and water pollution in Lake County and sits on the shores of Lake Michigan. This is a great opportunity to see what local organizations are doing to fight climate change.
“Years of Living Dangerously” is in its second year of production. The documentary series features celebrity investigators with a history of environmental activism, along with journalists known for environmental reporting. They travel the U.S. and the world to interview experts and ordinary people affected by, and seeking solutions to, the effects of climate change.
The program is aired on the National Geographic channel.
Submitted by the League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
