WINNETKA – Hundreds of runners, walkers, joggers, scooters, strollers and even some family dogs participated in the 2nd Annual Sacred Heart 5K Fun Run in Hubbard Woods on Sept. 11. The 5K, which started at Hubbard Woods train station and continued north into Glencoe on the Green Bay Trail and then back to the train station, is an annual fundraiser for both the religious education and school programs.
Sacred Heart School Principal Kristen Fink said a few words followed by a prayer and a 9-11 reflection, and the runners were off.
“The most amazing thing about this year’s race was the number of children who ran (or rode) the entire thing,” said race organizer Kerry Farley. “It was nice to see entire families participating and giving their time and energy to support Sacred Heart.” The run was generously sponsored by Mrs. Green’s, Once Upon a Bagel, RX Bars, Peets Coffee, and A to Z Chiropractor.
