In early spring, Mary Meister and Barbra Schumann of Lake Forest co-hosted this year’s paddle fundraiser to benefit House of Peace, a domestic violence shelter for women and their children located in Lake County. Thirty-two paddle players from Knollwood Club, Winter Club and other North Shore clubs raised more than $12,000 to help underwrite items needed for relocation when residents leave the shelter. The Esperanza Project, a special empowerment program at House of Peace, featured homemade jewelry for purchase. The ladies enjoyed a fun morning of paddle, along with delicious food and great camaraderie. houseofpeaceshelter.org
