LAKE FOREST – Thanks to the generosity of Deer Path Middle School families and staff members, two Lake County veterans will be able to take “Honor Flights.” The donations came from Deer Path’s annual Family Game Night and Salute to Veterans, hosted by the school’s Emotional Wellness Committee. The Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices by transporting them to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.
In additional to monetary donations collected at Deer Path’s event to fund the Honor Flights, attendees also donated personal care and clothing item from a suggested list of those needed by veterans at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. Student representatives from Deer Path will be delivering the donations and then giving a brief introduction/presentation at a “Pie Social” for veterans at the center, located at 3001 Green Bay Road in North Chicago, on Tuesday, February 16 from 1-2 pm.
