LAKE FOREST – Is someone going around at night pounding on doors and trying to enter homes uninvited?
Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Karl Walldorf read about an incident like that when he was scrolling through a Facebook page for residents of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff on Jan. 14.
The post said someone knocked loudly on a door and tried to enter a home between Green Bay Road and Route 41. The perpetrator was described on the Facebook post as a “man with hoodie and small black car. “
This didn’t ring any bells with Walldorf, so he had someone check the police call log to see if anyone had reported it in the past three days. One call was similar to the incident described on Facebook, but it was not an exact match, according to Walldorf.
Walldorf said a person informed police at 7:50 p.m. Jan. 13 that he or she heard a knock on the door of their home on Poplar Road, heard something strike a window and saw a dark car. The person did not report seeing anyone after hearing the sounds.
“The car was not there when we arrived,” Walldorf said. “The knock on the door or window could have been a large piece of ice or snow. It was in the general area described on the Facebook post but so is a quarter of the town.”
Was this the incident later shared on the local Facebook page? Or is a would-be home invader pounding on doors and trying to enter homes uninvited?
Walldorf isn’t sure – but he is glad that the homeowner called the police, and he encourages all residents to let law enforcement know about potential crimes.
“It’s important for people to call so we can confirm or deny and accurately communicate,” Walldorf said.
