CHICAGO – The Women’s Board of the Adler Planetarium hosted the 2015 Celestial Ball: Over the Moon, on Saturday, Sept. 12. Celestial Ball is the board’s annual black-tie gala held at the Adler. The event raised over $1.7 million for exhibitions, shows and programs that engage the community in doing science and inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
A highlight of fall gala season, guests at the Celestial Ball enjoyed an elegant cocktail reception while bidding on prestigious silent auction items including an island vacation in Anguilla, a Chicago Blackhawks suite, a yellow-Labrador puppy named Astro, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Adler’s Grainger Sky Theater, and a private party for ten at the Adler with special guest, Apollo and Gemini Astronaut, Captain James A. Lovell, Jr. Guests dined on truffle-rubbed hangar steak with Parisian herb gnocchi and chocolate truffles provided by Food For Thought while experiencing hands-on demonstrations from Adler’s Science Sommeliers, all set under Adler’s stars.
After dinner, guests noshed on Garrett’s popcorn, gourmet cotton candy and an ice cream sundae bar while dancing to music provided by the Michael Lerich Orchestra.
