LAKE FOREST – Re-invent Gallery of Lake Forest is honored to mark its third anniversary with a special exhibition from Lake Forest resident and internationally renowned fine artist René Romero Schuler when Paper Dolls opens on May 1. Co-curated with Jennifer Norback Fine Art of Chicago, the solo exhibit features framed works on paper created with a variety of media, including India inks, acrylics, and watercolors.
Paper Dolls marks the first time Romero Schuler has exhibited in Lake Forest and her first appearance on Chicago’s North Shore in eight years. Additionally, this is the first time these works have shown in the United States, having previously been displayed in exhibits in Rome and Paris. In the past two years, her work has been featured in the prestigious Beirut Art Fairs, as well as in group and solo exhibits in Rome, Paris, Paxos, Chicago, New York, Miami, and Napa Valley, among other locales.
The works in Paper Dolls are simultaneously complex and simple. Using complicated, unforgiving medias, Romero Schuler has created vibrant and vital pieces that are intrinsically organic and perfectly imperfect. The colorful, whimsical figures are also very representative of her general artistic intention to highlight the beauty in all our imperfections, as well as female self-empowerment. Complementing this focus, a benefit for the Stepping Stones Network, entitled Saving Someone’s Daughter, will be held at Re-invent on May 15, with the artist having graciously donated additional works for auction that night.
“I find inspiration in my work from those who are nearest and dearest to me,” said Romero Schuler. “Lake Forest is my home and I so look forward to this rare opportunity to exhibit among my hometown friends, family, and longtime collectors of my work. Re-invent is a beautiful gallery with a creative, young dynamic I applaud.”
Paper Dolls: A Solo Exhibition of Works on Paper opens Friday May 1 with a gala artist’s reception from 6 – 9 pm. The exhibit runs through June 13, and is open Mondays through Saturdays and by appointment. The Re-invent Gallery is located at 202 E. Wisconsin, Lake Forest, convenient to Metra and parking.
