GLENCOE – The Glencoe Park District has extended an offer to Chris Leiner, the top candidate for the director of parks and maintenance role.
Twenty-seven candidates applied for the position, which has only been held by two people in Glencoe Park District’s 103-year history. Rick Bold, the current director of parks and maintenance, will retire in June following a 37-year career at the Glencoe Park District.
After an initial round of interviews with 10 talented candidates and the department heads, three candidates were brought back for a second round of interviews with experienced parks directors from other park districts. The final two candidates were asked to join the Park District’s superintendent of parks and superintendent of maintenance for a facility tour. Throughout the process, Chris proved a standout candidate.
Chris will join the Glencoe Park District team on May 4.
“With our Master Plan almost completed, Chris is joining the Park District at an exciting time. As a forward-thinking leader, Chris will bring a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the Park District. I am confident Chris will quickly take the lead on many of our current and upcoming Master Plan projects,” said Lisa Sheppard, Executive Director.
Chris comes to Glencoe from the Des Plaines Park District, where he is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Parks and Planning. In this role, Chris is responsible for overseeing the daily park operations of 23 full-time staff members and 60 part-time staff members. He supervises projects at 52 park sites, including golf courses, playgrounds, community lodges, and athletic fields.
Chris brings effective oversight of capital project management, landscape/forestry, horticulture, mechanical maintenance, building services, and special projects/construction to the Glencoe Park District team. Chris previously had progressive management positions at the Park District of Oak Park. He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and is a Certified Playground Inspector.
