Learning is a Collaborative Process: Second graders at Sheridan School are immersed in reading, writing, art and technology integration. Using the Creative Book Builder app, students are publishing e-books on a topic in which they consider themselves “experts” as a follow-up to their writing unit on informational text. To compliment their writing, students also studied art as illustration and designed their book covers. Information literacy skills were embedded throughout the learning process. Integration and teacher collaboration provided a seamless learning experience for these students.
Students Helping Students: Sheridan School second grade teacher, Kathy Maines, and Information Literacy Instructor, Margo Newtown, partnered up to offer a collaborative learning environment for Kathy’s second graders.
Information literacy skills were embedded throughout the research process, and video creation using the DoInk greenscreen app allowed students to share their research about a U.S. landmark in a fun and engaging way.
Students had different roles based on their interests and skills. Some were “directors” during videotaping, others were “voice coaches”, helping students with oral language skills and others were “producers” by publishing the videos to the school’s YouTube account and creating QR Codes of their videos for all Sheridan Students to enjoy.
