Mary Therese Barr passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church.
Beloved wife of James Cullen Barr for 61 ½ years; devoted mother of Kevin (Susan) Barr, Brian (Joann) Barr, Noreen (Kevin) McCann, Nancy Jo (Robert E.) Lee, Kathryn (Mark) Kiernan and Martin (Molly) Barr; loving grandmother of Maura (Adam) Zitello, Kathleen, and Erin Barr; Matthew (Kellie) Barr, Nolan (Megan) Barr, and Christopher Barr; Jack, Mary-Cecilia, Maggie, Martin, Patrick, and Mary Bridget McCann; Robert, Cullen, Mary Therese, Sean (Rozann), Eileen, Mary Kate, Emmett, and Kathleen Lee; Mary Claire, George, and Nora Kiernan; Cullen, Michael, John, and Brigit Barr. Cherished great-grandmother of Kieran and Jocelyn Barr; and Brian Barr. Sister of Joan Regan and Kathleen (Larry) Gelderman; loved daughter of the late Francis and Josephine (née Flynn) Jordan.
Mary Therese graduated from Mundelein College and taught grade school before marrying James Cullen Barr in July of 1953. The couple had six children whom they raised in Wilmette, IL and on Lake Beulah in Wisconsin. Mary Therese (Terry) provided a beautiful and warm home for her family and volunteered with a variety of activities at St. Francis Xavier parish, where all of her children attended grade school. She was a consummate hostess and known for her generous hospitality among her many friends, and her children’s friends. She was an active member of Lake Beulah Yacht Club.
Mary Therese and Cullen wintered in Florida where they were members of Audubon Country Club. The two enjoyed tennis, golf, and frequent visits from their children and many grandchildren.
Mary Therese was a devoted wife to her spouse of 61 ½ years.
Visitation from 4-9 p.m., Friday, January 30 at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Ave., Lake Forest. Funeral mass on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Lake Forest.
