AT YORK TOURNAMENT: Highland Park and Lake Forest claimed first-round victories at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic in Elmhurst on Dec. 26.
Led by David Sachs (14 points, 4 assists), Jordan Krawitz (13 points, 5 rebounds) and Hallvard Lundevall (12 points, 4 rebounds), HP cruised to an easy 69-26 win over Sandburg. Krawitz didn’t miss a shot during his 11 minutes of action. He with 5-f0r-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from the foul line.
The Giants (7-2) also received solid play from Jacob Iden (8 points, 3 steals), Blake Schwartz (6 points) and Luke Norcia (5 points, 5 assists, 2 steals).
Meanwhile, Lake Forest remained undefeated on the season. Paced by senior Evan Boudreaux (29 points), the 10-0 Scouts crushed Nazareth 66-32 in their opening-round game. No doubt, it was a satisfying win for Lake Forest, which lost to Nazareth’s football team 54-24 in the Class 6A state quarterfinals.
AT WHEELING: Despite strong showings by Jimmy Martinelli and Sean McDonagh, Glenbrook South fell one-point short, 49-48, in a third-round consolation match-up against Vernon Hills on Dec. 26.
Martinelli led all scorers with 16 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. McDonagh had one of his best outings of the year: 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
Junior Jack Szafranski had seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
Meanwhile, Deerfield also lost a one-point game in Day 3 action at the Hardwood Classic. The Warriors fell to Prospect 50-49.
Jordan Baum led the Warriors with 14 points and three assists. Joey Lane and Will Boshes had 10 points each.
AT PROVISO WEST: New Trier dropped a 62-60 overtime decision to Hinsdale Central in the consolation bracket of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament.
Robbie Abuls led the Trevians with 16 points. Tino Malnati tallied 13 points, while Michael Hurley added 12 points.
The Trevians are now 6-6 on the season.
