AT GLENBROOK NORTH: The night started off great. Two ex-stars, Chris Collins (No. 20) and Jon Scheyer (No. 23), had their GBN jerseys retired in a ceremony prior to tip-off on Dec. 19.
But the Spartans (6-3, 2-1) were unable to add to the festivities. Niles North (7-2, 3-0), who is the frontrunner in the CSL North, broke open a tight game in the third quarter and wound up winning 58-38.
GBN, which trailed 25-22 at halftime, was led in scoring by senior guard Matthias Kim (12 points). Jonathan Simon and Pat Hamilton had nine points each.
The Spartans will open play in the DeKalb Tournament on Dec. 22.
AT MAINE EAST: For the second game in a row, senior Jordan Krawitz paced the Highland Park attack. He scored a game-high 17 points on 8-for-11 shooing in his team’s 48-21 triumph over the host Blue Demons on Dec. 19.
Hallvard Lundevall once again reached double figures (11 points) while also leading the team in rebounds (5).
Luke Norcia finished the game with eight points, four assists and two steals, while David Sachs had six points and seven assists.
The Giants (6-2, 2-1) will play in the York Holiday Classic. They will face Sandburg in a first-round contest on Dec. 26 at 10 a.m.
AT MAINE WEST: Nick Zwart came up with a double double and led Deerfield to a 54-29 win over Maine West on Dec. 19. The senior put 12 points and 12 rebounds in the books.
Once again, the Warriors (5-3, 2-1) received solid guard play from Joey The defense was a factor. Deerfield allowed only nine points in the first half.
Deerfield, which was scheduled to host Lake Forest (8-0) on Dec. 20 (6 p.m.), will play in the Wheeling Hardwood Classic. The Warriors will face Waukegan on Dec. 22 at 8:45 p.m.
AT NILES WEST: Robbie Abuls tallied 26 points to lead visiting New Trier to an easy 67-45 victory over the Wolves.
With the win, the Trevians evened their overall record to 4-4. They are 2-1 in the CSL South.
The team will open play in the Proviso West Tournament on Dec. 22.
AT WAUKEGAN: Glenbrook South will head into the Wheeling Hardwood Classic with a solid 7-3 record after upending host Waukegan 65-50 on Dec. 19.
Junior power forward Jimmy Martinelli led the Titans with 21 points. Senior point guard George Mavrakis added 18 points.
GBS has won seven of their last eight games.
The Titans will play Niles North (7-2) in a first-round game at Wheeling on Dec. 22 at 12:15 p.m.
