Updated 8:35pm, November 3rd: According to an updated press release from Highland Park Police Commander Tim Wolinski, the Lake County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the 27-year-old Waukegan resident who was shot and killed by the police at Highland Park Hospital early Monday morning as Christopher M. Anderson.
Highland Park police fatally shot an armed man at Highland Park Hospital early Monday morning after repeated efforts to get him to drop a handgun, according to a statement by Highland Park Police Commander Tim Wilinski. According to the release, the subject, a 27-year-0ld from Waukegan, was in the passenger seat of a car that was involved in a traffic accident at 11 p.m. Sunday. The release says Illinois State Police arrested the driver for driving under the influence, and that both the driver and the subject were transported to Highland Park Hospital. At approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday, Highland Park Police responded to a call for assistance from Highland Park Hospital for a report of an aggressive subject. According to the release:
- Police officers and hospital staff attempted to calm the subject, who was the passenger of the vehicle involved in the previous night’s arrest
- Then, the subject pulled out a handgun
- Officers repeatedly attempted to get the subject to put the weapon down before officers fired on the individual
- Hospital staff declared the subject deceased and no other injuries were reported
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is conducting the investigation. The MCTF is a multi-jurisdictional entity comprised of members from various law enforcement agencies, including the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lake County State’s Attorney Office, Lake County Coroner’s office, and multiple municipal law enforcement agencies.
