As part of a new exhibit at the Re-invent Gallery of Lake Forest, artist Mark McMahon has unveiled a brand new painting of his recent on-location viewpoint at Chicago’s recent Blackhawks 2013 Championship Celebration. McMahon drew the scene as it unfolded before him – then spent the next few weeks painting it for all to enjoy.
The triumphant painting shows the team atop the red double-decker bus as it goes past the Picasso at Daley Plaza, with throngs of fans in jubilant celebration along the street. As with all McMahon works, the detail is intense and the colors vibrant. The original is displayed at the Re-invent Gallery at 202 E. Wiscosnin Avenue, Lake Forest through August 8th, and is for sale at $4,250, framed. Matted glicee prints of the painting are also available at $175, and larger prints range from $250-400., with framing also available.
An internationally-renowned artist, Mark McMahon’s vibrant watercolors, drawings and murals grace museums, public installations and private collections throughout the world. His work is as diverse as life itself – from documentary paintings of a NASA space shuttle launch featured at the Smithsonian to a 125 foot-long tile mural in Chicago depicting Windy City life in all its brilliant colors and forms.
The current Blackhawks painting is one of about fifteen of Mark’s major pieces in the current show at Re-invent, on varied real-life experience themes. Inspired early on by the work of his father – the late Franklin McMahon, an artist-reporter for CBS-TV years ago who won an Emmy for his work – Mark has also included a few of Franklin’s rare encaustic works in the show at Re-invent. Several drawings in steel by his wife, artist Carolyn McMahon, are also featured.
