Not surprisingly, Lake Forest High School is the No. 2 high school in Lake County, according to a Chicago Magazine ranking of the Best Public Schools In Chicago and the Suburbs. Deerfield High School came in at No. 1; Libertyville High School was ranked No. 3 and Adlai E. Stevenson High School came in at No. 4. The ranking is based on a formula that factors spending per pupil; graduation rate; average composite score on the ACT college entrance exam; and the percentage of students who meet or exceed state standards on the Prairie State Achievement Exam.
(Most people around here would be interested in comparison of all Chicago-area high schools, and/or all North Shore high schools, but the magazine divided the data by county.)
Among elementary schools, Lake Forest’s Everett Elementary School and Cherokee Elementary School were ranked second and third in Lake County behind Braeside Elementary School in Highland Park.
