District 67 School Board Vice President John Julian said the outside review by independent counsel Ronald Safer of the Deer Path Middle School sexting scandal
is complete and that it will be presented in the near future to the ad hoc sub-committee that’s charged with overseeing the investigation.
Mr. Safer is a managing partner for the law firm Schiff Hardin LLP and previously worked as an assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois.
A public report will be made at next board meeting, Feb. 28, he said.
Previously, Mr. Julian said Mr. Safer is charged with three points:
1. Determine whether the district’s policies and procedures were followed.
2. Determine if the policies and procedures need to be revised, and recommendations made in that regard.
3. Determine whether there was any wrongdoing of the district’s handling of the John Steinert matter in 2009.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the Lake Forest Police Department’s handling of the scandal also is underway.
City of Lake Forest Manager Robert Kiely Jr. said the investigator has two final interviews to conduct in the next several days. An executive session briefing of the City Council is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Feb. 6.
When the city does get the investigator’s report, will it be made available to the public? Mr. Kiely said he can’t answer that until after the City Council has had a chance to hear and discuss the investigator’s report.
The city’s independent investigation is being conducted by Leigh Jeter, counsel with the law firm of Clark Baird Smith, LLP, which specializes in labor and employment law. Ms. Jeter is not a resident of Lake Forest or Lake Bluff.
