As many have sung before, there’s no place like home for the holidays.
Celebrating “Hometown Christmas Wishes” are Angela Rode and Christine Farrell of Lake Forest, co-chairs of the upcoming Guild of St. Mary Prelude, held this year on Friday, December 6, at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort. Together with their committees, Rode and Farrell are putting together a homespun fundraiser for the 79-year-strong Guild, an integral fundraising arm for the Church of St. Mary in Lake Forest, comprised of nearly 500 women.
“Our focus will be on the traditions and style of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff,” explains Rode. With a nod to the
convention of the beloved event, the day will include extraordinary boutique shopping, a sit-down luncheon, and a fashion show, which will feature only local retailers. “The show will have something for everyone, from party wear to casual daytime wear, all at different price points and all available for purchase.”
Bringing in an exciting new twist this year is the Boutique Preview Night. Never held before, the Preview Night will be on Thursday, December 5, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will provide a first chance to shop before the
excitement of Friday’s events.
Shop they will, as many Boutique favorites will be returning again this year, including Laura Lance Collection, Coupe Couture, and Mom’s Enterprises. The Guild will welcome newcomers Petite Trousseau, The Mustard Seed, and Boogie Baby, included in the mix of 50 to 60 vendors. And holiday shoppers take note: Having specially ordered items before Christmas is not only a must, it has been made a promise this year. “We have asked all vendors to make sure all their products are ready and delivered in time for Christmas,” says Farrell, citing the Boutique as the perfect place to shop for unique gifts while supporting local business.
The Prelude, heading into its 40th year, has rolled nicely with the punches over time. “With Lake Forest and Lake Bluff becoming such growing communities with young families constantly moving in and planting roots,” explains Rode, “the Guild wants to make sure we keep with the strong traditions of years past, while recognizing the new interests of the younger generation.”
The Prelude serves to many as the official start of the holiday season. “It reminds us of the wonderful community in which we are a part, the beauty of St. Mary’s, and the spirit of the Christmas season,” says Farrell. “It’s a wonderful day spent with friends enjoying a beautiful luncheon and fashion show, while getting a little something for everyone on our list.”
