Cassie Brodsky-Karstens, a Hinsdale resident who works alongside her husband at Karstens Financial firm, handles personal auto and home insurance as well as a large portion of the company’s rental real estate business. The couple divides their time between Hinsdale, a home in the city, and a home in Florida. This, along with being mother to a blended family of two sons and a daughter, keeps this trend-setting professional on the go. Here are some of her favorites from around country and town.
Mantra? It’s not what happens to you that matters. It’s how you respond to what happens to you that makes a difference.
Best grooming tip? Well-groomed eyebrows make a difference!
Guilty pleasure? A good 90-minute massage with Kelly Dacey at Inner Light Transformations. I’m super picky, and she is amazing.
Favorite foods? Indian, Sushi, Italian, and anything spicy. You’ll always see jalapeños and habañeros in my house.
Music you love? I love so many types of music I could go on and on …
Best advice ever given to you? From childhood, my father always told me not to lie, cheat, or steal. I’ve stood by that.
Best advice you’ve given? Boundaries are important. Don’t let anyone overstep them.
Earliest memory? Making mud pies in the backyard with my sister.
When you wake up, you …? 100 percent coffee, and then I can face the real world.
Before bed, you …? Snuggle with the kids and then try to watch a movie with my husband.
What’s on your bookshelf? A pretty good variety, such as fashion, interior decorating, self-help, autobiographies, thriller, romance, and then a big section my kids have taken over!
You can’t live without? My family. I feel most at peace when we are all together. And coffee. OK, and a good red wine.
Love to escape to? The gym. It’s helps keep my mind clear! You never leave the gym thinking, “Wow, I’m so mad I did that.”
Advice you would give to your younger self? Be authentic and genuine and worry less about what others think of you.
WHEN IN THE COUNTRY
Your style is? I’d say I lean more towards the bohemian-chic style. It’s comfortable but doesn’t look like you just rolled out of bed.
Can’t leave the house without? Lip gloss, my phone, and a positive attitude!
Transportation? I definitely take Uber if I’m not driving. Or my husband is my personal driver, ha!
Driving music? Depends on my mood. It can be slow and chill…or maybe it’s a rock out kind of morning.
Place to eat? I actually love to cook and have dinner parties so I’m at Whole Foods and Standard Market a lot. I also love Nabuki sushi, and a good thin crust pizza from Giuliano’s.
Shop? I’m a big fan of supporting local boutiques.
Best thing about the Country? It feels homey and cozy.
Worst thing about country? Fighting traffic to get into town.
The perfect day is …? Summertime family BBQs and sailing with the kids.
WHEN IN TOWN
Your style is? My style is less bohemian and more edgy during city time. It’s a chance to spice things up a bit and step out of my comfort zone.
Can’t leave the house without? My Jet Set Candy luggage tag charms necklace. I’m obsessed! I’m currently wearing Cabo (where we had our honeymoon), Florida (where we have our second home), and Chicago (of course)!
Transportation? Uber all the way or my taxi aka husband. Can you tell I don’t like to drive?
Driving music? Something upbeat, of course.
Place to eat? La Colonial, Tango Sur, Del Sol Korean Tacos, Toro Sushi, RPM, Eataly. I love food.
Shop? Lincoln Park has a bunch of cute boutiques. And, of course, Michigan Ave.
Best thing about town? Having our condo in Lincoln Park. Nice escape if we want some city life! And the CUBS!!! Go Cubs Go!
Worst thing about town? Traffic and crime.
The perfect day is …? Sailing with friends on Lake Michigan, a good dinner in town, and a Cubs game.
