LAKE FOREST – Lake County Coroner’s Office has identified the man and woman involved in a fatal shooting in Lake Forest early January 3. The woman has been identified as 27-year-old Claire Vanlandingham of Lake Forest. She died from injuries related to multiple gunshot wounds after being transported to Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital.
On January 4 at 9 a.m., the coroner’s office performed an autopsy on the man who police found deceased in the parking lot behind Dunkin Donuts on Western Avenue in downtown Lake Forest. He has been identified as 33-year-old Ryan Zike of Louisville, Kentucky.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate he died from a gunshot wound to the head. While it is possible that this wound is self-inflicted, the matter is still under investigation. Toxicology results are pending on both,” stated Lake County Coroner, Dr. Howard Cooper. “Both families have been notified and our deepest condolences go out to them. This is truly an awful tragedy,” he added.
According to the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, Dr. Vanlandingham and Mr. Zike were in a prior relationship that ended in late September/early October 2017. The motive is still under investigation. While this is an active investigation, it is considered an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community.
