Lord & Taylor will permanently close its location at Old Orchard Mall in Skokie in April 2018.
This news was shared in the state’s monthly WARN report on mass layoffs, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. The store’s closure will result in the loss of 119 jobs.
Employees may have the opportunity to transfer to other locations, the Chicago Tribune reported. Lord & Taylor has stores in Northbrook Court in Northbrook, Oakbrook Center in Oakbrook and Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.
Lord & Taylor is owned by parent company Hudson Bay. The announcement comes on the heals of Hudson Bay’s announcement in October that it was selling Lord & Taylor’s Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York City. The 646,000 square-foot New York building, which Lord & Taylor has occupied since 1918, is being sold to WeWork, a seven-year-old office-sharing start-up company, according to the New York Times.
