NORTHBROOK – Police issued a warrant for first degree murder in the case of Jigar K. Patel, an attorney who was found dead in his law office on Shermer Road in Northbrook.

On December 7, 2016, Jigar K. Patel, a 36-year-old real estate attorney, was found deceased in his law office at 1363 Shermer Road in Northbrook. The investigation into Patel’s death revealed that Patel was the victim of a homicide.
A No Bond Arrest Warrant for first-degree murder was issued for John G. Panaligan, 51, last known address of 2298 Boxford Court, Aurora, Illinois. Panaligan owns property in Tuy, Batangas, in the Philippines. The suspect has immediate and extended family throughout the Philippines, including, but not limited to a brother-in-law, Jose Jecerell C. Cerrado, who lives in Tuy, Batangas.
Investigators have discovered that, for years, John G. Panaligan has made multiple money transfers to foreign bank accounts, some of which are in the Philippines. The suspect may have access to large amounts of money and assistance from his family. The suspect is believed to have left the United States by truck over the Mexican border near El Paso, Texas, in mid-January of 2017. Evidence surfaced of money transfers sent to Durango, Mexico by known associates of John G. Panaligan. An international alert has been issued by the Federal Government for the arrest and extradition of John G. Panaligan.
The Northbrook Police Department continues to work with the U.S. Marshals Service in an attempt to locate and apprehend the suspect and is asking for the public’s help. The U.S. Marshals have offered a reward leading to the arrest of John G. Panaligan.
