WINNETKA – Winnetka has a new restaurant. Fred’s Garage, located at 574 Green Bay Road, is officially opening its doors for dinner on September 28.
Named after the automobile service station formerly located at that corner in downtown Winnetka, Fred’s Garage is owned by the team behind the popular Ten Mile House and DB3 Donuts in Evanston.
Given the extended summer weather, customers will have the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant’s outdoor seating in a large patio area. While the existing garage is incorporated into the design, the building was extensively renovated and expanded. Two fully functional garage doors and car bench seating pay homage to the former gas station. Design features also include concrete, tile, and reclaimed wood.
The menu overseen by Executive Chef Michael Luth is both global in its reach and downright homey. Diners can choose from an assortment of starters, including spicy cheese curds, hokee poke or a pu pu platter. There are also many sandwiches and salads to choose from — such as the a classic nicoise salad or griddle burger — as well as main dishes for a heartier appetite, like the bacon-wrapped meatloaf or fried chicken and biscuits.
“We are thrilled to build on the success of Ten Mile House and DB3 Donuts within the North Shore dining scene,” Co-owner Joe Krouse said in a press release. “We recognize the desire from residents of the community for dining options comparable to those in the city, and we are excited to deliver a new culinary experience that is both elevated and everyday, and worthy of downtown acclaim, to Winnetka.”
Fred’s Garage is located at 574 Green Bay Road, Winnetka and will be open for dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Friday and Saturday 4:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and Sunday 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For more information and reservations go to www.fredswinnetka.com or call (847) 496-3733.
