HIGHLAND PARK / LAKE FOREST – Christ Church, with locations in Lake Forest, Highland Park and Grayslake, will not hold services on Sunday, August 13, 2017 so that its members, attendees, family and friends can go out and do work projects with non-profits who have specific needs in the community. Christ Church has been planning this event for five months and will be partnering with 34 organizations in several communities in Lake County.
“It has been a goal of mine for several years that the church would leave the building on a Sunday and be out serving other people to demonstrate the love of God in very practical ways,” said Senior Pastor Mike Woodruff.
Christ Church’s vision statement is to transform communities by reaching people and renewing communities and this service day is just one of many ways they want to help. For this event, they have partnered with organizations such as The Gorton Center, Bernie’s Book Bank, SEDOL, Love INC of Lake County, Love INC Southwest, North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP), The City of North Chicago, and so many others. For a full list of organizations, visit the special website that Christ Church has set up to support the registration and organization of this event at www.serveyourcity.cc.
Projects have been set up into 6 different categories to make it easy for people to sign up based on the skills needed for each project, the appropriate age level for families and locations of projects. Some projects are family friendly and are perfect for those with kids while other projects require skills in building, landscaping, or relational skills as you work with elderly or disable people.
