WINNETKA – The Village Council on Aug. 2 unanimously approved the Wetlands Stormwater Project Memorandum of Understanding with the Forest Preserves of Cook County.
The plan would enable the village to route much of its stormwater, particularly from western Winnetka, to the forest preserves, including approximately 18.6 acres of the Skokie Lagoons area.
Additional stormwater storage agreements must be met with New Trier School District 203, Winnetka Public Schools District 36, and the Winnetka Park District, the Chicago Tribune reported on July 28.
According to Winnetka’s village website: “Now that the Village has approved the MOU, discussions about other potential stormwater storage projects can begin with Winnetka schools and parks – who have already demonstrated their commitment with letters of support for the MOU. Most importantly, the Village can start work on engineering tasks without fear that these dollars are wasted on a project that will never be approved.”
