WILMETTE – The Wilmette Police Department responded to a reported auto burglary early morning Monday, May 8, in the 1000 block of Manor Drive.
According to a police-issued crime alert, a resident saw four people exit two vehicles and start walking up and down driveways on the block just before 4 a.m. The offenders fled on foot when confronted, leaving the area in one of the two cars. The car they left behind was determined to have been stolen overnight May 7-May 8 from another community.
The offenders were described as African American males in their late teens and early 20s.
The police department reminds residents to lock their cars and remove their car keys. This is a pattern where the offenders target unlocked vehicles. They will steal cars that have keys left in them and will enter homes if a garage door opener has been left in an unlocked automobile.
Always lock your doors and remove the keys from your automobiles.
