LAKE FOREST – A firefighter sustained minor injuries when the Lake Forest Fire Department and several other area agencies battled an attic fire in the southwest part of the city shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, according to LFFD Battalion Chief Mike Gallo.
Firefighters were dispatched to the single-family home at 5 p.m. Saturday for a report of a roof fire, according to a news release from the LFFD. Within minutes, the first arriving fire crew reported a moderate amount of grey smoke coming from the home’s attire. The alarm was upgraded to bring additional resources to the scene.
Attack crews found the fire in the attic and prevented it from spreading. Extinguishment took about 45 minutes. There was one minor injury to a firefighter. No civilians were injured.
Departments assisting Lake Forest included Lake Bluff, Knollwood, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Countryside, North Chicago, and Deerfield. Wheeling and Mundelein sent apparatus to cover other calls in Lake Forest while crews worked to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Preliminary estimates put the damage at $50,000.
