Overnight camp is a magical experience that every child should get the opportunity to enjoy. I have experienced the benefits of camp first-hand for the last six years. It isn’t something that makes a difference for a few weeks each summer, the impact of camp is felt all year long. Camp helped me create meaningful friendships, taught me how to interact with peers and adults in all sorts of situations, allowed me to safely try new things, and so much more. Camp is a life changing experience and I want to make sure that all kids get this incredible experience.
Over the past five years, I have been fortunate enough to express my love for camp and achieve my goal of sending kids to camp by working with the not-for-profit organization SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promotes Education). SCOPE gives kids from underserved communities camperships so that may go to camp. For some kids, this means getting away from an urban neighborhood for the first time and for others it is an opportunity to experience something that would otherwise be out of their reach. Volunteers (like me) have even provided some essential camp related items to send them on their way.
Join me in spreading the joy of camp! SCOPE a great way to do it.
The 2017 Annual SCOPE Midwest Benefit will bring like-minded camp folks together at Pinstripes on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Pinstripes is located on 1150 Willow Road, Northbrook.
You can buy tickets for the event or just learn more at scopeusa.org. Please help me and so many others working to fulfill the SCOPE mission by providing children in need the edge to succeed through Summer camp experiences.
