Art Kessler and Dan Jenks are the most qualified candidates and the best options for Highland Park’s families. This community has been seized by a vitriol that should embarrass us all. We should all take responsibility for the partisanship that has created a radical group that lacks self-inflection and asserts that it is still relevant what position each candidate took on the referendum.
We should all do a better job of remembering that we support each other first. Art and Dan have consistently refused to engage in the rancor and, instead, have listened to me and to people with whom I disagree and have built bridges instead of stoking partisan fires. Their intelligence and facility with complicated, voluminous information is unassailable. Their dedication to our community and the future of our children’s and children’s children’s education is undeniable.
I want to celebrate the fact that we have such a compelling choice this year and have succeeded in motivating such a quality field of candidates who are each invariably selfless in their offer to spend countless time and be subject to relentless scrutiny for our community. What makes Art and Dan the best choices is their unyielding dedication to relationship-building, both before they were candidates and now as candidates. I believe that everyone who is currently running for the Board has a place in this process and an important voice that deserves attention.
I am genuinely hopeful that those who are not elected will stay involved and give our community the benefit of their advocacy and passion. But just because each candidate has a valuable voice and something to which we should all listen does not make each candidate the right choice to sit on this Board.
Art and Dan are the advocates and the personalities and the consensus-builders and the intellect that we need on this Board now.
