LAKE BLUFF – On Saturday, March 18, 11 students represented Lake Bluff Middle School at the Oakton Community College Regional Science Olympiad Competition. The Lake Bluff students competed against peers from 14 other middle schools, and medaled in five of the 23 events.
- Invasive Species: Emily Cheng & Skyler Kruenen – 1st place
- Food Science: Sam Shen – 3rd place
- Anatomy & Physiology: Emily Cheng & Skyler Kruenen – 6th place
- Meteorology: Andrew White & Gregor White – 6th place
- Scrambler: Emily Cheng & Skyler Kruenen – 6th place
Team members who did an excellent job, but did not receive medals: Avina Burns, Lachlan Kruenen, Gregor Sharp, Macartan Summerville, Mikey Taylor, Adam Tjarksen
“We are so proud of our students,” said LBMS 7th and 8th Grade Mathematics teacher Joe Jakcsy. “They faced a very competitive field of teams, and performed so well even in the face of unexpected challenges.”
“Once again, Lake Bluff students have represented their school and the community with persistence, creativity and knowledge,” added Dr. Jean Sophie, Lake Bluff School District 65 Superintendent of Schools.
Mr. Jakcsy coordinated team efforts with Sydney Jakcsy, with the assistance of Maureen Hominick and Patty Kruenen. Additional supplies were provided by Science teachers Susanna Cuarto, Brian DeYoung, and Saira Haji.
