LAKE FOREST — An unidentified Lake Forest man was found dead in a garage in the southeast part of the city March 5, leaving many questions unanswered until the Lake County Coroner completes his investigation, according to Lake Forest Police Commander Craig Lepkowski.
Lepkowski said both the police and Lake Forest Fire Department received a call about a fire late in the morning of March 5. The fire was limited to the garage and extinguished in three minutes, according a police news release.
Once the fire was out, Lepkowski said the fire crew discovered the victim dead in the garage.
The coroner is scheduled to conduct the autopsy and any further investigation Tuesday, according to Lepkowski. He said the victim was not the homeowner. He gave no more details about the death. Investigation of the cause of the fire is also continuing.
“We do know who he is,” said Lepkowski. “We are not releasing any further information until there is an autopsy, the cause of death is determined and proper notification is made.”
Others in the home at the time escaped without injury, according to Lepkowski. He said the damage was limited to the garage and no one was displaced because of the fire. Damage is estimated at $1,000, according to the release.
Lepkowski said the department is not giving out details of the location of the fire and death other than southeast Lake Forest.
“In the last two fires we gave out more information about the location and burglars broke into the boarded up homes,” said Lepkowski. “Now we have those investigations.”
