LAKE FOREST – The next session of the Citizens Police Academy will begin on March 1 and take place for 10 weeks from 7-10 p.m. at the Lake Forest Public Safety Building, 255 W. Deerpath.
The free program is designed to promote and enhance citizen understanding and awareness of the role of the Lake Forest Police Department in the community. The objective of the course is not to prepare graduates to become police officers but instead, to instill a greater general knowledge of the many functions of the LFPD.
Over 20 topics are covered in the class, including hiring and training of officers, patrol operations, police use of force, administration of the department, investigations, youth, community policing and more. In addition, students have the option of riding with an officer on patrol and firing department-issued handguns and rifles in the indoor range.
Applications may be found here or at the Police Department, 255 W. Deerpath.
