NORTHBROOK – The Village Presbyterian Church, 1300 Shermer Road, Northbrook, is pleased to announce a free, all-family musical event in its monthly concert series for church members and open to the public. The event, which will benefit PADS, will take place at 7:30 p.m. on January 13.
The talented and varied musical groups and soloists of The Village Church will again perform spirituals and other familiar songs, with opportunities for the audience to join in. This popular and anticipated annual concert features The Chancel Choir, The Praise Singers, The Worship Band, and noted organist/pianist Sharon Peterson performing such favorites as Amazing Grace, Peace Like a River, The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy, Were You There, and Soon-ah Will Be Done. Selected writings by Dr. Martin Luther King will be read by Pastor Richard Hansen.
PADS — Providing Advocacy Dignity Shelter — is the life-saving ministry that began its history in 1972, offering immediate, critical services 365 days a year, including emergency overnight shelter for “guests,” 36% of whom are children, experiencing a housing crisis. The vision of PADS is to provide a path to stable housing and self-sufficiency. The hope of PADS is to help end homelessness and ensure happy, healthy and safe lives for generations to come.
In 2016, PADS of Lake County provided 40,000 nights of shelter. Volunteer members and friends of The Village Church staff Sunday nights at the Deerfield Presbyterian Church, which is the shelter nearest our community. Support for PADS comes from local synagogues, Cub Scouts, Amvets, churches of all denominations, Lions Clubs, Kiwanis, women’s clubs, garden clubs, Rotary, Elks Clubs, United Way, corporations and foundations.
Concert goers wishing to donate children’s pajamas (infant to size 14/16), sweatshirts/pants, socks, coats and/or winter boots for children and adults may bring their contributions to the church on the evening of the fundraising concert. Following the program a free will offering will also be collected. All proceeds benefit PADS. Check may be written to The Village Presbyterian Church, noting “Donation to PADS” in the memo line.
