HIGHLAND PARK – The Historic Preservation Commission is considering landmarking a circa 1922 home that was nominated by an “unnamed person” against the wishes of the owners, according to a July 19 Chicago Tribune article.
The current owners purchased the property at 1570 Hawthorne Lane in September 2015 with the intention of tearing it down to enlarge their yard, the Tribune reported. According to Zillow.com, the house was sold at that time for $682,500.
The commission voted unanimously on July 14 that the nomination met two conditions for landmark status:
- The architect, John Van Bergen, was noteworthy
- The home’s structure and Prairie-style design are worth preserving
