By Sarah Metzger, Girl Scout troop leader
Nine seventh grade girls from Deer Path Middle School received their Girl Scouts Silver Award for 50+ hours of service completed over the past two years. They include Hannah Metzger, Olivea Simms, Jillian Moorman, Linnea Karahalios and Isabelle Hartwell (shown in the photo above), and Kelly Page, Katie Neill, Vivian Hough, and Helen Randolph.
The Scout From Troop Troop 2837 worked together to research and buy seeds to propagate vegetable seedlings that they helped plant at Green Youth Farms in North Chicago.
In addition, they collected shoes to donate to Nike through SWALCO for ReUse A Shoe to provide improved park surfaces. Since these girls were Daisy Scouts at Sheridan School together they’ve expressed an interest in the environment and the lives of other children.
Incidently, Hannah Metzger’s cousins Patrick and Michael J. Metzger were Eagle Scouts in the 1980’s, and their father, Pat Metzger, was a Scout leader for the Boy Scouts for approximately 40 years. As the girls’ Troop Leader, I’m very proud to be carrying on this family Scouting tradition.
Now it’s on to Gold!
Sarah – Congratulations to Troop 2837. I would like to contact you re working with CenterStage in Lake Forest for possible community service or earning badges. We have worked with a few girl scout troops in the past and would love to reconnect and work together on a project regarding our Summer Musical Production -Brigadoon – to be held at Gorton Community Center the end of July. Please contact me or leave contact info at 847-234-6062.
